Vivien Mallock FRBS
Selected artist profile information for this English Sculptor
AboutVivien Mallock's treatment of bronze, is a shining example of what can be achieved by a combination of an open mind, acute observation and mastery of technique. This amalgam adds the qualities of movement, subtlety of texture and a tactile use of patination, which transforms the medium into something more than mere three-dimensional art. Vivien's large works in Normandy, Portsmouth and Whitehall are examples of what she can achieve when given the opportunity to fill a large public space, capturing the spirit and poignancy of war and peace. |

Biography / CVVivien's career as a sculptor began at the Museum of Army Flying at Middle Wallop in Hampshire. To give her work a personal touch, she sculptedportraits of individual aircrew, including John Cunningham and other celebrated fighter pilots who flew from Middle Wallop in 1940, as part of an exhibition to mark the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. These works have since become a unique feature of the Museum. Her more recent sculptures in bronze have featured in a number of exhibitions in London and Home Counties. She became a member of the Armed Forces Art Society in 1992 and a member of the Society of Women Artists in 1993. Her portrait work was auctioned by Christies in June 1994 to raise funds for the Samaritans. She became an Associate of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 1998. She is much in demand for portraits in bronze but also enjoys figurative works rely for the effect on atmosphere and movement. Having been brought up in a military family and married an Army Officer, she has a particular insight into the military character.
